I’ve never thought of the camera as an instrument to record realism. The camera takes things out of context. It transforms, isolates, and sterilizes. The image becomes a thing unto itself.

I’ve had a long fascination with muck! For the most part, it is oozy, sticky, slippery, slimy, smelly, disgusting stuff. But snap! Camera magic and it’s a thing of beauty.
